2 Direct object S + DO + V S + DO + V நான் புத்தகத்தைப் படிக்கிறேன். Nāṉ puttakattaip paṭikkiṟēṉ. I read the book.

3 Indirect object S + IO(-க்கு) + DO + V S + IO(-kku) + DO + V நான் அவனுக்குப் புத்தகம் கொடுக்கிறேன். Nāṉ avaṉukkup puttakam koṭukkiṟēṉ. I give him a book.

4 Beneficiary S + beneficiary(-க்காக) + DO + V S + beneficiary(-kkāka) + DO + V நான் அவனுக்காக ஒரு புத்தகம் வாங்குகிறேன். Nāṉ avaṉukkāka oru puttakam vāṅkukiṟēṉ. I buy a book for him.

GENITIVE:

Genitive with -இன் Owner + இன் + Possessed noun Owner + iṉ + Possessed noun ராமனின் வீடு பெரியது. Rāmaṉiṉ vīṭu periyatu. Rama's house is big.

Possessive pronoun Possessor + Possessed noun Possessor + Possessed noun என் புத்தகம் புதியது. Eṉ puttakam putiyatu. My book is new.

WAS GOING TO:

Pattern 1: Nouns ending in -ம் (-am)

Example:

மரம் (maram) — tree

Notice:

ம் (m) becomes த் (t) before many case endings.

Pattern 2: Nouns ending in -ன் (-an)

Example:

மாணவன் (māṇavan) — male student

Case Singular Transliteration

Nominative மாணவன் māṇavan

Accusative மாணவனை māṇavanai

Dative மாணவனுக்கு māṇavanukku

Genitive மாணவனின் māṇavanin

Instrumental மாணவனால் māṇavanāl

Here, the stem does not change. You simply add the suffix.

Pattern 3: Nouns ending in -ல் (-l)

Example:

கல் (kal) — stone

This pattern has a stem change.

This is an irregular sound change you simply memorize.
